The more time goes on it is seeming like the latter. Poor little Kai has been having a rough time with his digestive system the last week.
First last week I had a risotto with mushrooms and truffles. The next day I (with a horrible digestive system myself) had a grumbly upset digestive system. Kai seemed uncomfortable and when I had my hand on my stomach I could feel it moving around and grumbling and making a lot of noise. Then he had a couple really big diapers with streaks of blood in it. The next day when I took him to the doctor it turned out he had anal fissures..aww little cuts around his butt. From straining or pooping a lot.
The next day I decided ok I have to start the elimination diet. I had already been avoiding certain foods because I suspected they bothered him early on- foods like milk and eggs. But this elimination diet you are supposed to eat turkey, lamb, squash, potatoes and pears. I can't do the lamb. Yuck. It's hard for me to eat meat being a vegetarian for so long. So I had the turkey.
That turned out to be a mistake.. the next day Kai was spitting up much more than usual, pretty much most of every meal, and his butt was bright red like it has never been before. He was also a little fussier. Ok no turkey for him. It took him a couple days to get over that.
Then yesterday we gave him a bottle from breast milk pumped last month- also turned out to be a bad idea. I think I was eating dairy then. He woke up many times last night, crying in pain, farting and pooing. Poor little man.
He has also had a stuffy nose for a month that doesn't seem to help with the sleep. The nose drops and vaporizer are not much help. As I am seeing how much foods I eat truly bother him I am also noticing a connection with the very short sleep periods. I am going to continue to keep track of what seems to bother him, without doing the elimination diet.
Through all the digestive problems he is still such a smiley little man.. as soon as the discomfort seems to subsides he is smiling all the time. We love him so much..
